Conference Lounges in Austin: How We Furnished Rails World at Palmer Events Center
In September, Rails World 2026 brought the Ruby on Rails community to Palmer Events Center in Austin for two days of talks, demos and conversations. The show was produced by Stacey Stine and the team at Magnify Communications, and they brought us in to provide the event furniture rentals around the hall: lounges where attendees could sit down, recharge and keep the conversation going.
A Casual, Outdoor Feel Inside Palmer Events Center
The look of the conference was a perfect fit for us, and one that really brings out the Austin vibe. Magnify gave the space a casual, outdoor feel: food trucks, string lights, turf, barrels and lots of plants and trees all around the room. They even erected a clear podcast studio right in the middle of the hall. Our Pallet lounges fit right in. The greenery, from the potted plants on the pallet arms to the olive trees, came from Enchantment Event Decor, and next to the natural wood it made the whole hall feel warm and relaxed.
A conference hall is also a lot of walking. Between sessions, people want a place to land that isn’t a hard chair in a row. We spread lounges all around the hall, by the food trucks, along the sponsor booths and in the open spaces between, so a seat was never far away. Each area got its own cushion color, red, royal blue or black, which helped each zone feel like its own spot.
Introducing the Circle Pod
Rails World was the first big show for our newest configuration, the Circle Pod. Pallet seating wraps around a center table so everyone faces inward, which turns a lounge into a gathering spot. We brought two of them.
The red Circle Pod sat near the food trucks, a natural place to grab a seat with your food and meet the person next to you.
The black Circle Pod became the Record Listening Station, with a turntable on the center table and headphones at every seat. Attendees could chill out and listen to songs curated by The Mighty Missoula, and limited edition records were raffled off each day. Even with headphones on, the circle made it feel like a shared moment.
Beyond Rails World, we can totally see the Circle Pod as an intimate gathering spot at any event: a wellness circle, a breakout for smaller groups, or just a place for a few people to sit down and have a real conversation.
L-Shape Pods Facing the Sponsor Booths
In the middle of the space we placed royal blue L-Shape Pods with round side tables right in front of the sponsor booths. Attendees had somewhere to sit while they talked to sponsors, and the sponsors got more people hanging around their space.
Planning a Conference in Austin?
With the Austin Convention Center closed for renovation over the next few years, Palmer Events Center has become one of the main spaces for big events in the city. It’s a little smaller, so figuring out the layout and how the furniture fits takes more thought. Since our pallet furniture is modular and comes in many different configurations, it works great for spaces like this. Send us your CAD drawings and we’ll match the lounges to your floor plan, or let us suggest a layout. Take a look at our Austin collection and our Palmer Events Center venue page to see what’s possible.
